Federal govt to appoint special secretary as NEPRA chairman

Islamabad: Special Secretary Establishment Division Wasim Mukhtar is likely to be appointed as Chairman of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) by the federal government.

The federal government has finalized the name of Wasim Mukhtar as the chairman of NEPRA.

Currently, Wasim Mukhtar is serving as special secretary in the establishment division of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS).

As per the sources, Federal Cabinet is likely to approve Wasim Mukhtar as Chairman of NEPRA through circulation today.

The final meeting and federal cabinet will be held today at 2 PM in the National Assembly of Pakistan, Islamabad.

Reportedly, the selection committee named Wasim Mukhtar among three names for the appointment of NEPRA chairman, including former MD of CPPA  Abid Lodhi and NEPRA member Sindh Rafiq Shaikh.

Earlier, Wasim Mukhtar served as the MD of PEPCO and Central Power Purchasing Agency.

It should be noted that at present the NEPRA chairman is Muhammad Tauseef Farooqi who has extensive experience in the telecommunication sector.

Muhammad Tauseef Farooqi took charge as NEPRA chairman on August 5, 2019.
