Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is planning to set January 28 as the date to hold the general elections 2024 across the country.

The sources further stated that the highest electoral authority is going to notify the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) in writing in the next two days, as it begins preparing for the next elections.

The Supreme Court sought the commission's statement about timely elections, and the ECP is scheduled to inform the court of this.

Earlier this week, at the top court's hearing on the matter of timely elections, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa noted that it was "not possible" to fulfill the 90-day timetable for holding polls and bemoaned the petitioners' lack of preparedness.

According to the ECP, the general election schedule would be revealed right away following the delimitations notification.

The statement added that the first stage in creating fresh delimitations has already been completed and the second would be completed on October 27. “A final list will be issued by November 30,” the statement added.

The election authority responded to President Arif Alvi's comments on the postponement of the general elections by stating that "it is fully prepared to hold polls."
