Poliovirus detected in samples from six more districts
The Caretaker Federal Health Minister continued to say that polio surveillance system is working effectively in Pakistan.
Karachi: Polio virus was confirmed in the environmental samples of six more districts of Pakistan.
According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, four samples from Karachi, two samples from Chaman, one sample each from Peshawar, Kohat and Nowshera have been found.
In this regard, the caretaker federal health minister Dr. Nadeem Jan said that the polio virus belongs to the YB2A virus cluster in Afghanistan.
He stated that every child is at risk due to the presence of polio virus. Children under five years of age can be crippled by this virus for life.
Dr. Nadeem Jan added that there is no cure for polio, only vaccine provides protection to children. Therefore parents are requested to welcome the polio workers who come to their homes and protect their children from life-long disability. He also directed to administer polio drops.
