Mahmood Achakzai’s plea gets rejected to postpone elections 

Islamabad: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) nominated candidate for presidency Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s plea to postpone presidential elections. 

According to the details, Election Commission issued written verdict regarding this matter.

Election commission stated that the national and provincial assemblies’ elections were held at February 8 and according to the constitution presidential elections is compulsory within 30 days. 

He said that including Mahmood Khan Achakzai and others have submitted the nomination papers for presidential elections and the evaluation of the nomination papers have already done. 

Mahmood Khan Achakzai appeared before the Returning officer (RO) at the time of evaluation at that time he did not raise any objection to the completion of the Electoral College, Election Commission also said. 

At this time the electoral college is complete now, the prime minister and the chief minister have been elected in this way. So, the elections cannot be stopped by calling the electoral college incomplete, ECP affirmed that. 

ECP further said that the presidential election cannot be postponed for more than 30 days, 22 members have already vacated their seats in recent days, the electoral college means parliament and provincial Assemblies are present.
