Agreements with Iran: US once again hints at sanctions on Pakistan

Washington: United States once again indicated to impose sanctions on Pakistan for making new agreements with Iran.

During a press briefing in Washington, US State Department Deputy Spokesman Vedant Patel has warned those promoting business agreements with Iran, saying that sanctions may be imposed if progress is made in new agreements between Pakistan and Iran.

Vedant Patel said that treaty makers should be aware of the threat of sanctions, as Pakistan views relations with Iran as part of its foreign policy, and sanctions are faced by suppliers to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Yesterday, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller stated that he advises those considering trade agreements with Iran to be aware of the possible threat of sanctions, the US is not evaluating possible sanctions.

Matthew Miller further said that the US is one of Pakistan's largest export markets and one of its major investors, looking forward to continuing its partnership. Pakistan's economic success is in the interest of both countries.
