Rawalpindi: A Rawalpindi accountability court on Monday extended the physical remand of PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi for 10 more days in a new Toshakhana case.

Imran, who is 71 years old, has been in Adiala Jail for nearly a year due to convictions in various cases, including two Toshakhana references, the cipher case, and the Iddat case involving his wife. Though his sentences in the Toshakhana cases were suspended and he was acquitted in the cipher case by the Islamabad High Court in June, he remains in jail due to new charges.

The Islamabad district and sessions court recently accepted the appeals filed by Imran and his wife against their Iddat case convictions. However, they were re-arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a new Toshakhana case immediately after their acquittal.

NAB initially secured an eight-day remand for Imran on July 14, while Lahore police also arrested him for several other cases, including the attack on the Corps Commander House. Currently, he is under a 10-day physical remand for investigation related to the May 9 incidents.

Today, Imran and Bushra Bibi were presented in court as their previous remand extension expired. NAB requested an additional 14-day remand, but Judge Muhammad Ali Waraich granted a 10-day extension, setting the next hearing for August 8 and asking for an investigation progress report.
