Pakistan to receive 13m doses of Pfizer vaccine
Islamabad: Pakistan has signed an agreement with Pfizer-BioNTech for supplying 13 million doses of COVID-19 mRNA vaccine.
The agreement has been signed between Pfizer Pakistan and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). Under the contract, Pakistan will receive 13 million doses of US vaccines. While, the exact timeline has not been disclosed yet.
The first shipment of Pfizer vaccine is likely to arrive in July while the remaining would be provided by the end of 2021.
Syed Muhammad Wajeehuddin, Country Manager of Pfizer Pakistan stated, “We are proud to work with the Pakistani government and to pursue the common goal of bringing the COVID-19 vaccine to the public”.
Reportedly, Pfizer and Biotech have set a target of producing more than three billion doses of the COVID vaccine globally by the end of this year.
As per reports, more than 600 diplomats from 57 countries have been vaccinated at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
In Pakistan, citizens above 18 are entitled to get free coronavirus vaccine.
Pakistan has received 100,000 doses of the mRNA in May under COVAX facility and nearly 13 million doses of coronavirus vaccines have been administered in the country.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s registered death toll from coronavirus infections rose towards 22,000, but some data suggested the spread of the disease has been contained.
According to National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), around 663 cases of coronavirus were reported while 27 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 22,034.
The total number of confirmed cases reached to 949,838. As many as 894,352 patients have recovered from the disease with 2,238 critical cases.
