Biden team asks court to pause move to ban TikTok
Washington DC: President Joe Biden's administration has asked a US federal court to pause proceedings aimed at banning popular Chinese-owned video app TikTok, to allow for a fresh review of the national security threat from the app.
In a court filing, Department of Justice attorneys said the new administration had begun to review whether TikTok was the threat to national security sought by former US President, Donald Trump.
Following the court filing, TikTok has said it does not share US user data with the Chinese government.
Trump issued several executive orders that would have prevented Americans from accessing TikTok, but the efforts not yet gone into force and attracted legal challenges.
This move is the latest development in a drawn-out debate about TikTok’s presence in the US and its ownership structure.
