Shoaib Akhtar resigns on air, walks out of TV show after being insulted
Embroiled in a fresh controversy, Akhtar was displeased with the interruption and expressed dissatisfaction towards the host who asked him to leave the show midway if he wants to.
Karachi: Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has been in talks since he walked out of programme that was being broadcasted on a state-owned television channel. He resigned from his job as cricket analyst after being told to leave the show by the host.
As per details, Shoaib Akhtar was invited in the post-match show to discuss Pakistan cricket team’s performance in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup alongside world cricket greats like Sir Vivian Richards and David Gower.
Embroiled in a fresh controversy, Akhtar was displeased with the interruption and expressed dissatisfaction towards the host who asked him to leave the show midway if he wants to.
The 46-year-old said that he had been treated badly and insulted on air by Nauman Niaz (host), the renowned Pakistani cricket broadcaster who called him ‘rude’.
The video clip of the incident has since gone viral on various social media platforms.
Following the heated argument, Akhtar, later, resigned from the channel.
Former Pakistani pacer then took to Twitter to give an official statement and stated that multiple clips are circulating on social media so I thought I should clarify.
“My apologies for this but I am resigning immediately from PTV sports as I have been insulted and treated badly on live television in front of the nation," he said.
Later, he posted a video clip saying, “I tried to save everyone from embarrassment by saying I was pulling Dr Nauman’s leg with this mutual understanding”.
“Dr Nauman was obnoxious and rude when he asked me to leave the show,” he said.
He further said that he asked Dr Noman to apologise on the show and he will let the incident go.
“He refused to do. Then I had no other choice,” Shoaib added.
Following the incident, other guests on the show, including Sir Vivian Richards, David Gower, Rashid Latif, Umar Gul, Rashid Latif, Umar Gul, Rashid Latif, Aaqib Javed and Pakistan women's team captain Sana Mir were clearly stunned.
Apparently the problem began when Akhtar decided to talk about pacer Pakistani cricketer Haris Rauf—lavishing praise on the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Lahore Qalanders for discovering Haris and supporting him properly.
“This is the guy who deserves all the credit. It was Lahore Qalanders who gave us Haris Rauf," Akhtar said as he pointed towards the former Test pacer as Noman—interrupting him.
Clearly annoyed and irritated with Akhtar, the host told Shoaib that he had been misbehaving with him and he would not tolerate— telling him it was better if he leave show and then went for a commercial break.
After the break when the transmission resumed, there was more drama when Akhtar, got up, took off his microphone and left.
Meanwhile, Nauman Niaz showed no reaction at all and carried on with the show as normal.
