Islamabad: Pakistan has signed a 10-year agreement to import liquefied natural gas from Qatar, a major step in filling Pakistan’s energy shortfall.

According to Prime Minister Imran Khan, Pakistan and Qatar have signed a new LNG import agreement for ten years.

He further said that it took his government three years to negotiate this agreement which will help save three hundred million dollars annually.

Under the new agreement, 1.2 LNG cargoes will be imported in four months.

On the other hand, Imran Khan performed the groundbreaking of Central Business District in Lahore.

Addressing the ceremony on occasion, PM said that this project will help in wealth generation as it will be a business hub of Pakistan.

“This project will help generate six thousand billion rupees. Wealth generation projects are essential to strengthen the economy,” he added.

Blaming the previous governments for mismanaging the economy, PM said that his government faced immense difficulties in initial months. PM, however, expressed satisfaction that the current account surplus remained surplus during the first six months of current fiscal year. 

“Thankfully, our textile exports are increasing continuously and new industries are being set up in the country,” he said.
