Islamabad: The prime suspect in Noor Mukadam murder case has been given death sentence by a sessions court on Thursday (today) for murdering her in Islamabad. 

Additional Sessions Judge Ata Rabbani announced the verdict.

The verdict in the Noor Mukadam case was announced at 1:30 pm after arguments of the counsels of all the parties were concluded. 

Zahir's parents, Zakir Jaffer and Asmat Adamjee, and other suspects were present in the court when the verdict was announced.

Meanwhile, the convict's household staff and co-accused in the case, Iftikhar and Jameel, were sentenced to 10 years in jail.

The convict’s parents—accused of abetting the crime— were acquitted in the case.

The high profile murder case has gripped the whole nation. 

It has been nearly four months since that high profile murder took place and came to light, and in the time since, all eyes in the country have been fixed in place, waiting for the case’s ultimate outcome. 

Amid intense media spotlight, the proceedings of the Noor Mukadam murder case are likely to be a huge test for country’s judiciary as it looks to ensure justice is served.  

The verdict of the grisly murder case was heard today in Sessions Court Islamabad.  

The Islamabad police arrested suspect Zahir on the night of July 20 from his house where—as per victim’s parents—he killed her with a sharp instrument and beheaded her.   

Zahir, was formally charged for the crime by an Islamabad court in October 2021.  

A case of murder was later registered by Noor’s father—former Pakistani ambassador Shaukat Ali Mukadam.

On July 20, Noor Mukadam was slaughtered at a house in F-7/4. The police arrested a man, identified as Zahir Jaffer, from the murder site. The officer familiar with the case said that the suspect was a friend of the deceased.

Following the incident, a case under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code has been registered against Zahir at the Kohsar Police Station

On July 25, police arrested the parents of suspect Zahir Jaffer for hiding evidence and being complicit in the crime.
