No-confidence motion sails through to oust Imran Khan as PM
Imran Khan is now the first-ever prime minister who has been shown the door through vote of confidence
Islamabad: Imran Khan as Prime Minister of Pakistan was shown the door as the no-confidence motion sailed through the Lower House of the Parliament and ousted Khan from the power.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, who chaired the session a member of the panel of chairs after the departure of Asad Qaiser, announced the result of voting.
He said 174 members voted in favour of the no-confidence motion.
The announcement followed at least 12 hours' debate on the matter.
"174 members have recorded their votes in favour of the resolution, consequently the resolution for the vote on no-confidence against Mr Imran Khan, the prime minister of Pakistan, has been passed by a majority," Ayaz Sadiq announced after the process of voting was completed.
Following the announcement of the result, the speaker called Shahbaz Sharif to deliver a speech.
Shahbaz Sharif thanked Allah Almighty, saying today (Sunday) is the beiginning of new morning{in Pkaistan}.
He thanked Asif Ali Zardari, Fazlur Rehman and Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari for extending their support, saying today the rule of law and constitution had won.
Bilawal, Abdul Ghafoor Haidri, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Akhtar Mengal spoke on the floor of the House after no-trust motion.
Earlier, the members from the Opposition banches cast their vote and returned to their seats.
