Power shortfall drops, unannounced load-shedding continues in parts of country
Unannounced load-shedding continues to make people’s lives miserable
Lahore: After the addition of 1,392 megawatts of electricity to the national grid during the last 24 hours, the shortfall on Wednesday came down to 5,307 megawatts.
According to details, currently 21,293 megawatts of electricity was being produced in the country, while the demand stood at 26,600 megawatts.
These frequent outages have made the day-to-day life of the public miserable as mercury soars in the peak summer months.
Karachi faced 16-hour-long power cuts. There was Islamabad region four to six hours of load-shedding while Lahore face a 7 to 8-hour load-shedding schedule. Ten-hour power outages continue in Peshawar and Quetta.
Sources revealed that 4,688 megawatts of electricity were being generated from hydel sources.
Similarly, power production by state-owned thermal plants stood at 1,314 megawatts, while total production by the private sector powerhouses made up 12,182 megawatts of the total output.
Likewise, 1,567 megawatts of electricity were being generated by wind power plants while only 118 megawatts by the solar plants. Around 1,237 megawatts of electricity was being generated by nuclear fuel.
Different areas of the country were experiencing up to 14 hours of load-shedding, while the duration of power outages was longer in the areas where there were more line losses.
