President Arif Alvi urges to create awareness about importance of early diagnosis of hepatitis
Safe blood transfusions, use of auto-disable syringes, and strict infection control practices must be ensured in all healthcare settings


Islamabad: President Dr. Arif Alvi on Thursday urged all stakeholders to create awareness about the importance of early diagnosis of hepatitis and work together for the elimination of this disease from the country.
In his message on World Hepatitis Day, which is being observed today, he emphasized addressing the risk factors for disease that need to be addressed on an urgent basis by ensuring safe blood transfusions, use of auto-disable syringes, and strict infection control practices in all healthcare settings.
World Hepatitis Day will be observed today all over the world including Pakistan.
Various seminars and awareness walks will be organized across the district by the Health department as well as private organizations.
Pakistan Medical Association President Dr Sikandar Warriach said that World Hepatitis Day is observed every year, aims to raise global awareness of hepatitis a group of infectious diseases known as hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E, and encourage prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
He said that hepatitis affects hundreds of millions of people worldwide, causing acute and chronic diseases and killing close to 1.34 million people every year.
Hepatitis can cause inflammation of the liver both acutely and chronically and can kill a person.
