Islamabad: The government has decided to appoint Asim Ahmed as the new FBR Chairman. Asim Ahmed is a member of the FBR IT wing and belongs to Inland Revenue Department.

According to GNN, that the federal cabinet has approved the appointment of Asim Ahmed as the new FBR chairman as the tenure of current FBR chairman Javed Ghani expires on April 10.
The Finance Ministry had sent a summary of the extension of Javed Ghani's tenure, but sources said that the summary of the extension was not approved by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
It may be recalled that in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan in December 2020, the Federal Cabinet had extended the term of Chairman FBR Javed Ghani by 3 months.
This is the sixth time the PTI-led government is appointing the FBR chairman.
This is a critical hour for tax collection machinery as its performance becomes immensely important due to the country's scrutiny under the strict supervision of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“The government has decided to appoint a new chairman of the FBR and different names are under consideration for the appointment of the sixth chairman under the rule of PTI-led government,” a local newspaper cited earlier this week.
According to the publication, one top official of the government, when contacted that the government has decided to appoint the new chairman FBR probably from within the ranks of the board.
The departing chairman belonged to the Customs Group, so now the new chairman might be selected from the Inland Revenue Service (IRS) Group.
