The electoral body asks the top court to review its decision saying that the constitutional position to hold elections has not been regarded.
Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday submitted a petition to the Supreme Court, asking it to review its directives to hold the Punjab Assembly elections on May 14.
The ECP submitted that its constitutional position to fix election date or hold elections was not regarded as it should have been. It asked the court to intervene into its matters.
According to a 14-page petition, the ECP requested that the Supreme Court review its decision regarding elections in Punjab.
The ECP petition respectfully requested the Supreme Court to revisit, review, reconsider and recall its Impunged Order/Judgment dated 04.04.2023 in the interest of justice and equity.
The petition came almost a month after the top court nullified the ECP’s decision to postpone elections from April 30 to October 8, and directed it to hold the elections in Punjab on May 14.
A day earlier, the reports emerged that the ECP said that the arrangements were not possible for May 14, citing many factors.
