Islamabad: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on submitted a letter to the Supreme Court on Wednesday, requesting the implementation of the court's order to hold elections in Punjab on May 14 "in letter and spirit."

The letter said that "no solution within the Constitution" was found despite the best efforts of all parties.

The PTI and federal coalition concluded their negotiations on polls, which began last week upon the top court's advice, a day earlier.

After the negotiations, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar stated that both parties agreed to hold elections to national and provincial assemblies on a single date under the supervision of caretaker setups, but the date was not decided.

According to a report, the talks between the government and the PTI were held on April 27, April 28, and May 2 "with full sincerity" following the Supreme Court's order.

The report outlined that both parties agreed on the importance of dialogue between political parties, and that political parties ultimately held the solution to all political questions.

The report stated that the parties aimed to hold this dialogue with sincerity to find a solution that would benefit Pakistan and its people in accordance with law and the Constitution.

The report also specified that the dialogue would not be used as a delaying tactic and had no bearing on the Supreme Court's April 4 judgment unless the parties agreed within the Constitution and implemented it.

The PTI said that elections to the assemblies must be held within 90 days, as determined by the SC. The PTI requested that the PDM/alliance abide by constitutional provisions and hold elections to the Punjab Assembly on May 14, 2023.

However, the opposition party contested the government's position, which suggested that elections to national and provincial assemblies be held on the same day in October 2023 after the dissolution of the National Assembly (NA) and the legislatures of Sindh and Balochistan.

PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi, meanwhile, regretted that no decision was made on practicable proposals put forward by his party.
