Blast at funeral claims 11 lives in Afghanistan
The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) claims responsibility for the blast at a funeral that killed 11 people.
Faizabad: In a devastating attack at a funeral service in Afghanistan, at least 11 individuals lost their lives on Thursday.
The targeted funeral was being held in Faizabad, the provincial capital of northeastern Badakhshan province, to mourn the acting provincial governor, Nisar Ahmad Ahmadi.
The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) swiftly claimed responsibility for the blast, demonstrating their continued menace despite the Taliban's assumption of power in August 2021.
Eyewitness Naseer Ahmad described the horrific scene that unfolded as the explosion tore through the mosque where mourners had gathered to pay their respects.
The aftermath left the ground littered with bloodied bodies, further heightening the sense of tragedy.
Afghan Ministry of Interior, representing the Taliban-led government, denounced the attack perpetrated by their adversaries.
Condemning the violence, the ministry expressed its condolences to the grieving families.
Security forces rapidly responded by securing the area and establishing checkpoints in the vicinity.
