Karachi: Fresh troops of Pakistan Army have been deployed to deal with possible Cyclone Biparjoy.

According to details, a high level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to take protective measures to avoid possible cyclone Biparjoy which was attended by Director General (DG) Rangers Sindh, General officer commanding (GOC) Hyderabad Garrison and other concerned officers.

A strategy was formulated in the meeting to deal with the cyclone and fresh troops were deployed as security measures taking the services of Pakistan Army.

The command of Pakistan Army decided that more troops of Pakistan Army will also perform their duties for possible rescue operations. Pakistan Army will never leave its people alone in difficult times.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif assured the Sindh government of complete support of the federal government to deal with the expected cyclone.

Turning to Twitter, he wrote: “I just spoke to CM Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah and discussed the preparations to deal with the cyclone”.

I commend the Sindh government for the arrangements it has made under the leadership of the Chief Minister, he added.

Prime minister stated that we will be able to overcome this situation with the support of the people.

According to the 14th alert issued by Department of Meteorology regarding the cyclone formed in the Arabian Sea, the distance of the storm has further decreased from Karachi to only 500 km. It is 530 km from Badin and 650 km from Ormara. A severe cyclone from the Arabian Sea may hit Kati Bandar (Sindh) and Indian Gujarat on the afternoon of June 15.

Experts says that the storm was not near the coast of Karachi before, however its general direction has changed towards the northwest and will remain in the north and west till June 14.

Chief Met Sardar Sarfaraz said: “After June 14 it will again move towards North East to Indian Gujarat. The storm will pass near the coastline of Thatta, resulting in strong winds and heavy rain. There is a possibility of light rain and strong winds in Karachi on June 14”.

According to the alert, there may be 300 mm of rain in the coastal areas of rural Sindh with wind and thunder. Karachi is likely to receive rain from Tuesday (today) evening. Due to the effects of the hurricane, Karachi may record 100 mm of rain in 24 hours.

The track of the storm will remain northward till the morning of June 14. After changing direction on June 15, it will cross Kati Bandar in rural Sindh and Indian Gujarat.

The alert stated that during the likely impact of the cyclone, in case it reaches the coast of South-Eastern Sindh, from June 13 to 17, the districts of Thatta, Sajawal, Badin, Tharparkar and Umarkot will experience widespread gale, thunder and strong winds.

There may be rain and gusts of wind with a speed of 80 to 120 km per hour. The maximum wave heights of 35 to 40 feet are being recorded.

District administration Badin have shifted more than 2000 fishermen to relief camps from zero point in the center of the coastal belt.

The relief camp lacks basic facilities. Fishermen say that even after 12 hours we have not been provided with food, our infants are suffering from hunger and thirst.

The process of evacuation of the population near the coastal belt in Badin has been started by Hilal Ahmar Sindh, several families have been moved to safe places, the process of moving to permanent buildings will continue today (Tuesday).
