The 40-year old man, lives on the Spanish island of Mallorca reportedly went to work and gym instead of isolating himself though he was exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms and later tested positive for the disease, ignoring requests from his supervisor and workmates.

His colleagues told the police that he coughed heavily around the office, even pulled his mask down on several occasions saying, 'I am going to infect you all with coronavirus’.

As a result of these events, five of the people who worked with the man and three who visited the gym were subsequently infected with novel coronavirus and then infected their family members.

As per police report, the man directly infected eight people and indirectly infected a further 14, taking the total to 22.

“The accused refused to isolate at the request of his colleagues and even continued to work out at the gym while displaying Covid-19 symptoms,” police said in a statement.

Police have been investigating the allegations since late January.

Moreover, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, the country has a total of over 3.4 million cases and over 77,000 deaths since the beginning of the global pandemic.
