Islamabad: Federal Minister for Climate Change and Senator Sherry Rehman on Thursday said that new spell of monsoon was starting from July 13.

The Minister warned that there was a chance of rain and thunder in several parts of Islamabad, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir in her tweet on the social media platform Twitter.

The monsoon spell will last until July 17. She said that all relevant institutions had received instructions to be on high alert.

"There is a risk of flooding of low-lying areas due to excessive rainfall in Islamabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, Peshawar, and Rawalpindi from July 13 to 17," she continued.

According to the federal minister, landslides might occur in the mountainous regions of Murree, Guliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

She urged travelers to exercise caution in order to avoid any unpleasant situations during the storm, noting that mud houses, electricity poles, solar panels, and other vulnerable infrastructure might be harmed by wind, thunder, and heavy downpours.
