Karachi: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claimed to have arrested two Pakistan Customs officers in mega corruption case on Friday.
Yawar Abbass and Tariq Mahmood, who were'missing' from last week, were apprehended when they traveled to Islamabad.
The arrested Pakistani customs officials allegedly used to demand payment from smugglers in order to clear their products from checkpoints, according to FIA authorities.
As per details, Rs5.4 million, $2,500, and 6,100 Dirhams were also recovered from their possession.
A massive corruption case has been filed against the customs officers at the FIA anti-corruption circle, according to FIA officials, who also claimed that they were earning Rs40 to 60 million per month from the customs checkpoints.
In the first month of 2020, police said that they had detained two employees of the Karachi customs department for selling alcohol that had been seized by the agency.
Details indicate that Younus and Khalid, two customs department officials, were detained by Shershah police for selling liquor bottles that had been confiscated by their agency. At least 83 bottles carrying imported alcohol were also found in their possession.
