‘We’ll provide laptops if we’re elected to power again,’ PM addresses students at Sialkot’s GCWU
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says that they have cut down prices of the petroleum products as a result of their deal with the IMF because the rupee got strengthen against the US dollar.

Sialkot: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that they would provide laptops to the students if they were elected to power again in the upcoming elections.
“We started laptop scheme in 2011 under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif,” said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He said that they provided laptops to the brilliant students across the country during their last tenure. He stated that they gave due share to all other provinces besides Punjab.
The PM said that the project of 100,000 laptops was for financial year of 2022-23 and they introduced another project of 100,000 for FY 2023-24. He referred to the financial constraints and challenges during his speech.
“We faced huge financial challenges when we came into power,” said PM Shehbaz Sharif while addressing a ceremony at Government College Women University in Sialkot on Sunday.
He stated that he faced huge trouble even for $45 million and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar managed that amount to import laptops for the students. This is, he said, short amount but it is important that the laptops, scholarships and laboratories should be provided to the students for the sake of the country’s progress and development.
Shehbaz Sharif said that for women, they allocated Rs5b to support them for their skilled development. The women, the PM said, were 50 per cent of this country’s population and their equal participation was important. He regretted that the women after their marriages preferred stay at their homes rather than working in the field, vowing to overcome the social taboos.
“If you visit the different parts of the world you will see the women’s role. There is a resolution because of the women. They speak good English, they are doctors and engineers,” he added.
The PM said that his government was about to complete its tenure next month and hoped that whichever the party was elected to the power they would work for the sake of the country’s development.
“If we are elected to power we under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif will pay our role for the development of the country and will provide laptops to the students,” said Shehbaz Sharif.
The PM said that they had also good universities but if they compared the Oxford and other universities with the locals they came to know about Jahangir’s tomb and Taj Mahal.
He said that the education was the key to the success and hoped that which the government would come into power would work in the education sector. He also urged the students to focus their learning and education with dedication and commitment.
“We did IMF deal. The oil and petrol prices have come down. The prices have gone down after appreciation of rupee against the dollar. We provided this relief to the public last night. We won’t demand loans if our economy is strong,” said the PM.
At the end, he recited a verse from the poetry of National Poet Allama Mohammad Iqbal, emphasizing upon “Khudi ” [self-consciousness].
