Emergency imposed in KPK as nine killed in rain incidents


Peshawar: At least nine people were killed while seven others sustained injuries in rain-related incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Sunday.
Severe rains in KPK over the previous 48 hours caused a number of areas of the province to declare emergencies.
Nine persons had passed away in the previous 24 hours, including two in Swat, two in Battagram, four in Mansehra, and one in Buner, according to a report from KP's Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
According to the report, seven persons had been hurt, including three each in Swat, Battagram, and Mansehra.
As per PDMA reports, 67 homes received partial damage and nine had full damage.
According to the spokesperson for the KP Relief Department, the District Administration, PDMA, Rescue 1122, Civil Defense, and other institutions were on alert.
The afflicted residents of Lower Chitral had already been relocated to safer locations, he stated, that a thorough evaluation of the damage will begin as soon as the flood levels in Lower Chitral subsided.
Earlier in the day, Punjab governmen has issued a red alert in the province Punjab as Pakistan was devastated by floods.
Punjab interim information minister Amir Mir stated during a news conference that the Punjab cabinet emergency meeting examined the flood situation.
He claimed that additional flooding will occur in the Punjab if India had severe rainfall. In the event of significant rains, the Sutlej and Ravi rivers' water levels will rise enormously.
The minister of information asked those who live close to riverbanks to leave their houses and relocate to a safe location.
In addition, he cautioned that if India experienced excessive rains, Shadara could sink as it did in 1988.
Yesterday evening Lahore's low-lying districts were drenched by torrential rain that persisted for several hours.
Several districts of the capital city of Punjab were inundated by the current monsoon rains, which peaked at 173mm near Gulshan-e-Ravi.
Pani Wala Talab received 141mm rainfall, Lakshmi Chowk 152mm, Nisthar Town 151mm, Qurtaba Chowk 126mm, Johar Town 156mm, Tajpura 128mm and Iqbal Town 106mm.
It is important to note that torrential rains today in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) led to at least four fatalities and numerous injuries, according to a report released by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
