Lahore: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday officially nominated former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently under detention, as the indefinite chairman of the party.
The decision was reached during a meeting of the PTI's core committee held on Tuesday.
This move comes amid an ongoing review by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding the potential removal of Imran Khan from his party's chairmanship, following his conviction in the Toshakhana case. A formal notification in this regard is expected to be issued sometime this week.
A tweet from the official PTI account shared the details of the resolution that was unanimously approved by the core committee members. The resolution highlighted Imran Khan's pivotal role as the founder of PTI and emphasized his efforts in fostering political awareness among the general populace. It also acknowledged his notable contributions to Pakistan, underscoring his instrumental role in shaping PTI into the largest and most influential political party in the country.

Moreover, the resolution recognized Imran Khan's global efforts in projecting a positive image of Islam and addressing Islamophobia. The former prime minister's advocacy on international platforms to counter negative stereotypes associated with Islam was underscored.
