Pakistan-US stand united in counterterrorism, regional stability: State Dept

Washington: Pakistan and the United States (US) stand united in their pursuit of counterterrorism objectives and regional stability, as emphasized by Vedant Patel, the Principal Deputy Spokesperson of the Department of State, during a press conference on Tuesday.
Patel highlighted the ongoing communication between the US and Pakistan's leadership encompassing talks related to Afghanistan, counterterrorism efforts, and other crucial areas. Emphasizing the importance of addressing shared challenges for regional stability, Patel underscored the cooperative approach both nations are taking.
The US is committed to collaborating with Pakistan in eradicating terrorist groups, reaffirming support for Pakistan's endeavors to eliminate terrorism. Patel noted that the protection of citizens remains paramount under the framework of the rule of law.
The Deputy Spokesperson expressed the United States' readiness to engage with the interim Prime Minister and his team, affirming their cooperation as Pakistan prepares for upcoming elections. Patel emphasized the US's intent to continue the partnership with Pakistan in areas of mutual interest, striving for economic stability, prosperity, and security.
Furthermore, the US advocates for independent, impartial elections and the steadfast adherence to democratic principles and the rule of law in Pakistan.
In response to a query regarding Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's willingness to engage in discussions with India over bilateral concerns, Patel reaffirmed the US's consistent support for direct dialogue between India and Pakistan on matters of mutual concern.
While addressing the possibility of disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, Patel reiterated the US's stance of not endorsing specific candidates in foreign elections. However, the spokesperson emphasized the US's commitment to promoting free, open, and equitable elections globally.
