The gene-altered pig kidney is successfully working for 32 days.

Washington: An innovative experiment involving the transplantation of a genetically modified pig's kidney into a deceased human has been successfully carried out in the United States.
According to international media reports, a mentally deceased individual was chosen for the groundbreaking experiment involving the transplantation of a pig's organ.
Medical experts in the US reveal that the gene-altered pig's organ has been functioning within the human body for a span of 32 days.
Experts suggest that this achievement is a significant step towards making pig organs a viable option for human transplantation.
In the medical realm, this type of surgery is referred to as Xenotransplantation, wherein organs or tissues from one species are transplanted into another species.
According to a cautious estimate, around 17 people die daily in the US while awaiting human organ transplants due to a shortage of donors.
Medical experts emphasize that despite the success of this groundbreaking surgery, there are numerous regulatory hurdles beyond just approvals that need to be addressed.
