The PPP senior leader says Nawaz's health condition may deter him from returning to Pakistan soon.

Karachi: In contrast to recent assertions by former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Khursheed Shah on Sunday expressed doubt that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif would return to the country in October due to health-related concerns.
Following a meeting with Nawaz in London, Shehbaz had announced a new prospective date for his elder brother's return during a press conference on Friday. Although he did not confirm a specific date, he declared, "Nawaz Sharif will return to Pakistan in October [2023] and lead the election campaign."
Since his departure to London in November 2019 for medical treatment after facing convictions in graft cases, Nawaz has remained abroad.
Khursheed Shah shared his perspective with local media on Sunday, emphasizing that Nawaz's health condition might deter him from returning to Pakistan soon. He stated, "Nawaz Sharif's health is not stable; there's a possibility he might not come."
Responding to queries, the PPP leader further added, "Given his health situation, Nawaz Sharif's condition could deteriorate, especially in critical moments."
In 2016, Nawaz was disqualified for concealing assets and resigned as the Prime Minister following a Supreme Court ruling. Subsequently, he was convicted in cases related to Al-Azizia and the Avenfield Apartment, which emerged after the Panama Papers leak. Appeals against these convictions are currently pending in relevant courts.
Earlier, sources within the Sharif family had indicated to Geo News that Nawaz was expected to return to Pakistan on October 15. The decision was reportedly made in consultation between Nawaz, Shehbaz, and close family members in London. This adjustment in plans was not due to the Election Commission of Pakistan's (ECP) announcement but instead stemmed from party supporters' advice. They believed that September's weather was unfavorable for extensive political gatherings and proposed mid-October as a more suitable time for Nawaz's return.
Shehbaz arrived in London after handing over governmental responsibilities to Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar. An informed source shared, "The decision on Nawaz Sharif's return date is being influenced by weather considerations. The 15th of October is currently fixed, with potential for further discussions."
