Federal Secretary directed officials to take relentless action against electricity thieves.


Islamabad: The Federal government has initiated a crackdown against electricity thieves starting today.
Federal Secretary of Ministry of Energy, Rashid Langrial, announced in a statement that the crackdown, involving the cooperation of all chief secretaries and police inspectors general, aims to tackle the issue of electricity theft.
He acknowledged that combating thieves will not be easy, but there is no room for failure in this campaign.
Secretary Langrial directed field formations to take relentless action against electricity thieves without any exception.
It should be noted that this crackdown is in line with the directives of the vigilant Prime Minister's Advisor on Energy, Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar.
"Until electricity theft is eradicated, and people do not pay their bills, the public will not receive cheap electricity," said the Minister of Energy, Muhammad Ali, in clear terms during a press conference.
During the press conference, Minister Muhammad Ali revealed that there was a loss of 79 billion units of electricity in Islamabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Multan Distribution Companies (DISCOs).
Among these five DISCOs, the loss amounts to a staggering 10 billion rupees. These five DISCOs have a billing of 304.4 billion rupees, with losses of 10 billion rupees.
