Sheikh Rasheed, along with his nephew Sheikh Shakir, Sheikh Imran, and Sajjad [his driver], were taken up from a private housing society.
Rawalpindi: The chairman of the Awami Muslim League (AML), Sheikh Rasheed, was detained despite a petition submitted to the province high court that claimed no case had been filed against the seasoned politician.
The Punjab police head, Rawalpindi CCPO, SSP Operations, and others have been named as respondents in a plea filed with the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) by the jailed leader's attorneys, Sardar Abdul Razzaq and Sardar Shehbaz.
According to the petition, their client, along with his nephew Sheikh Shakir, Sheikh Imran, and Sajjad [his driver], were taken up from a private housing society.
The petition asserts that Rasheed was unlawfully taken into custody by the SSP Operations after being unlawfully taken from his home, and it claims that despite repeated requests, the police have yet to respond with a satisfactory explanation.
The appeal, which calls for the release of Rasheed, a close ally of the PTI leader, demands that the police be forced to appear in court with their client.
Earlier yesterday, the former interior minister and Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed has been arrested from his Rawalpindi residence.
Sheikh Rasheed lawyer Sardar Abdur Razak claimed that Sheikh Rasheed has been arrested.
A prominent politician and chief of the Awami Muslim League (AML) Sheikh Rashid and an ally of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was apprehended at his Rawalpindi residence.
Furthermore, Rasheed’s lawyers claimed that former interior minister has been arrested by plainclothesmen from his residence in a private housing society in Rawalpindi.
According to him, Rashid along with his nephew Shakir and a servant has been shifted to an undisclosed location.
