NIH issues advisory regarding conjunctivitis

Islamabad: An advisory has been issued by the National Institute of Health (NIH) regarding conjunctivitis—the eye infection.

According to details, NIH has directed patients affected by conjunctivitis to stay in quarantine and avoid contact with healthy people.

According to the advisory, affected patients should wear glasses to reduce the symptoms of photophobia, cover the nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing and sneezing, wash hands with soap and clean water. In case, soap and clean water are not available, use hand sanitizer.

Children suffering from conjunctivitis have also been instructed to stay at home by the National Institute of Health.

Notably, conjunctivitis, also known as ‘pink eye,’ is a highly contagious infection usually caused by an adenovirus. The symptoms of the virus include burning, itching, photophobia and watery eyes.
