California: Elon Musk acquired X (formerly Twitter), on October 27, 2022, and now, a year later, the social media platform has undergone a significant transformation.

Under Musk's leadership, X has introduced an audio and video calling feature, enhancing its user experience.

This new feature has been in the pipeline for several months and has finally been rolled out.

Currently, it is exclusively available to iOS users, with plans to extend it to Android users in the near future.

Elon Musk had previously hinted at the introduction of audio and video calls on X.

Similar to many other new features on the platform, this capability is reserved for X Premium subscribers, those who pay a monthly fee.

Users will have the option to manage their audio and video calls through Direct Messages settings.

To initiate a call, at least one Direct Message needs to be sent to the recipient.

Notably, Elon Musk announced in August 2023 that X users will not need to provide a phone number to make audio and video calls.

He described X as a global address book, eliminating the need for traditional phone numbers for making calls.

These updates are part of Elon Musk's broader strategy to transform X into a super app, where users can access a wide range of services.

Musk envisions the audio and video calling feature as a way to attract more users to the platform.

Additionally, X is working on integrating a payment feature to further expand its services.
