Mumbai: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah barred local state associations from setting off fireworks during the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup 2023.
According to the Indian Cricket Board, the air pollution in Delhi and Mumbai has increased to dangerous levels, therefore the Secretary of BCCI Jay Shah has announced not to display fireworks.
The Indian Cricket Board stated that during the World Cup matches, following the trend local state associations set off fireworks, however this time in view of the environmental pollution, there are no fireworks during the World Cup matches in Delhi and Mumbai.
Jay Shah added that fireworks add to the pollution, which is why there will no longer be display of celebration in the form of fireworks.
He continued to say: “We are sensitive to environmental protection, have raised the matter with ICC, will continue to contribute to the efforts to improve the environment”.
