Power tariff likely to hike by Rs1.70 per unit

Islamabad: Gearing up to deliver another shock to power consumers in Pakistan, government is likely to increase the electricity price to Rs1.70 per unit under the quarterly adjustment.
According to details, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) Tuesday (today) will hear the appeal for July-September adjustment, the same tariff will be applied to electricity consumers quarterly. After hearing the appeal, NEPRA will take a final decision regarding the price increase.
An additional burden of Rs22.56 billion has been requested on electricity consumers, while it is also requested to collect Rs12.126 billion in the form of capacity charges.
A request has been made to collect Rs10.247 billion under use of system charges. It has also been requested to receive Rs4.680 billion for operation and maintenance and Rs6.670 billion for damages.
