OpenAI’s GPT store delayed to next year
OpenAI’s GPT store, a marketplace to share and sell custom GPT apps, was originally planned for a late November release.

In the email, OpenAI said that “unexpected things have been keeping us busy,” which pushed back the GPT store’s rollout. The company said it had planned to release the store in December, which itself is slightly later than originally promised; at its developer conference in November, OpenAI said the store would launch later that month.
To be fair to OpenAI, it did have a very eventful past week dealing with the ouster of CEO Sam Altman, the open revolt of hundreds of its employees, the exodus and heart emoji social media campaign of its senior executives, the welcoming of a new CEO, and the eventual reinstatement of Altman as its leader. (Also, check out The Verge’s Alex Heath’s interview with Altman.)
OpenAI did say in its email that while it’s still working on the store, people should expect some updates to ChatGPT. The development team announced it also improved some functionalities of the custom GPT platform.
The GPT store will be a marketplace for users of OpenAI’s GPT builders to sell and share the GPTs they’ve built. When the company announced custom GPTs, OpenAI said it would pay people who’ve made their own GPTs an unspecified amount based on how much their creation was used.
The Verge reached out to OpenAI for comment.
