According to details, the Queensland is offering AUD$1,500 (£1,163; £823) and help with travel to those who will work opt for tourism related jobs.

The border restrictions due to coronavirus pandemic has left many positions vacant and businesses struggling.

Before Covid hit, tourism was worth some AUD$22bn to Queensland. That dropped significantly after border restrictions were put in place in March 2020.

Now as Australia is gradually opening up, the state is trying to attract domestic visitors to help uplift their tourism sector.

Tourism Port Douglas's chief executive Tara Bennet said that some restaurants were only opening 80% of the time.

"We do rely on working holidaymakers every year to come up and supplement our work and they're just not in Australia right now," she said.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the money - part of an AUD$7.5m package to bring in more workers - was available to people from across Australia willing to take up jobs in regional Queensland.

There is also an AUD$250 travel bonus for those who qualified for jobs like tour guiding, bartending and working in kitchens.
