Islamabad: Munizae Jahangir, Co-Chair of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), stressed the imperative of ensuring transparent and credible elections, calling upon the caretaker government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to actively contribute to this goal.
Accompanied by Farhatullah Babar, Jahangir voiced concern over the current electoral environment, emphasizing that a government ascending to power under such conditions would lack credibility.
She underscored the pivotal role of transparency in upholding the integrity of the electoral process, expressing alarm at the compromised state of human rights in the country, particularly noting deliberate harm inflicted upon a specific political party.
At a press conference held in Islamabad earlier today, HRCP has said it is deeply concerned by the overall deterioration in human rights, which needs urgent attention as the new year unfolds.

Farhatullah Babar echoed these sentiments, citing ongoing rigging practices where individuals submitting nomination papers are reportedly facing arrests.
Babar warned that such instances erode public trust in the electoral system, foreseeing potential chaos in the coming days.
