Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa presided over the meeting of the Judicial Commission.


Islamabad: The Judicial Commission Friday approved the name of Chief Justice Balochistan High Court (BHC) Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan as a judge of the Supreme Court.
A meeting of the Judicial Commission was held on the issue of appointment of judges in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa presided over the meeting of the Judicial Commission.
Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan will remain the judge of Supreme Court till June 2028. He was appointed judge of Balochistan High Court in May 2011 and Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court in August 2021.
The Judicial Commission also made unanimous approval to appoint Justice Shahzad Ahmed Malik the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court (LHC). The current Chief Justice LHC Ameer Bhatti is retiring on March 7 next month.
The Judicial Commission approved both the names and referred the matter to the Parliamentary Committee.
It is pertinent to note that the decision to appoint BHC Chief Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan as judge of Supreme Court was made a day earlier.
