Karachi: Four more cases of the Indian variant of coronavirus (B.1.617.2) have been detected in Pakistan.

According to local media, the Sindh Health Secretary Kazim Jatoi has confirmed that four more people have been diagnosed with Indian Covid-19 variant, taking the overall number to five.
Reportedly, out of the four, three people had come from Iraq while another arrived from Muscat.
“Three belong to Karachi and one is from Ghotki,” Sindh Health Secretary said adding that all four people have quarantined at homes and tests of their family members are also being conducted.
On Sunday, the National Institute of Health (NIH) confirmed the detection of the first COVID-19 infection with the Indian variant.
Pakistan is presently experiencing the third wave of coronavirus which is said to be deadlier and more contagious than previous two waves.
According to National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), around 2,117 cases of coronavirus were reported while 43 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 20,779.
The total number of confirmed cases reached to 921,053.
As many as 841,241 patients have recovered from the disease with 3,947 critical cases.
