Washington: US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said that helping Pakistan overcome the energy crisis is the priority of the US.

The US State Department spokesperson was asked at a routine briefing that United States has asked Pakistan to stop its gas pipeline project with Iran and threatened sanctions, while the US has a very good deal with Qatar for its own energy needs. It seems that America has not left its non-NATO ally Pakistan anywhere in terms of energy needs. If Pakistan constructs a gas line from Iran, US sanctions will apply and if it does not, Iran will impose 18 billion dollars in damages.

In response, Matthew Miller said that helping Pakistan overcome the energy crisis is America's priority. US has helped Pakistan with 4,000 megawatts of energy. American projects have increased Pakistan's power generation capacity.

The spokesperson stated that American projects are providing electricity to Pakistanis and they are also working on smart agriculture and energy.

However, Matthew Miller did not comment on Iran's damages.
