The court extended the judicial remand of the accused Afnan till May 7 while issuing summon notices for other co-accused.
Lahore: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Lahore Monday extended the judicial remand of Afnan Shafqat, the accused in the Defence car accident.
According to the details, Anti-terrorism judge Arshad Javed heard the car accident case in Defence Housing Authority (DHA), area of Lahore.
In the case of the death of six members of the same family due to a car collision in defense, the accused Afnan was presented in the court after the judicial remand was over, besides the father of the accused, Shafqat Awan also appeared in the court.
The court extended the judicial remand of the accused Afnan till May 7 while issuing summon notices for other co-accused.
Background
It is pertinent to note that in November 2023, six members of the same family, including two children, were killed in a collision with a speeding car in the DHA area of Lahore.
The police had alleged that the suspect youth was driving the car at high speed which led to the accident, in which six members of the same family were killed and the deceased were identified as 45-year-old Rukhsana Bibi, her 25-year-old son Hasnain, 23-year-old daughter-in-law Ayesha, 30-year-old son-in-law Sajjad, four-month-old grandson Huzaifa and four-year-old granddaughter Anaya.
Witnesses said the suspect was alone in the car when people pulled him out and handed him over to the police.
The police had registered a case against the suspect's driver, Afnan Shafqat, on the complaint of the head of the deceased's family, Rafaqat Ali, who was traveling in another car at the time of the incident.
An eyewitness stated that the accident was so horrific that when Afnan's car collided with the car of the family of six, it flipped several times and was almost completely destroyed.
Rafaqat Ali said that he found all his six relatives covered in blood, most of whom died on the spot while others breathed their last after being shifted to the hospital.
The police arrested Afnan Shafqat from the spot and registered First Information Report (FIR) against him and included the provisions of murder and terrorism in the case.
