Lahore: In preparation for Eid al-Adha, the Punjab police on Sunday outlined an extensive security plan to ensure the safety of citizens across the province, including the capital, Lahore.
Security deployment:
IG Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, announced that a comprehensive security plan was made for mosques, imambargahs, and Eid gatherings.
The plan involves the deployment of 40,000 personnel at 26,500 mosques, imambargahs and 900 open-air Eid prayer gatherings.
In Lahore alone, security for over 5,000 Eid prayer gatherings will be managed by 6,000 personnel. Additionally, 498 special police officers and 260 Quick Response Force (QRF) teams will be stationed to enhance security measures.
Cattle markets and SOPs:
Dr. Usman Anwar also noted that 3,000 personnel are currently assigned to ensure the security of 227 cattle markets. Strict adherence to the Home Department's SOPs regarding the collection of sacrificial animal hides will be enforced to maintain order and compliance.
Monitoring and additional measures:
To further bolster security, the monitoring of banned organizations and individuals listed in the Fourth Schedule will be intensified. Snipers and plainclothes commandos will be deployed on the rooftops of mosques and imambargahs to provide an additional layer of security.
During the Eid holidays, increased personnel will be assigned to parks and recreational areas to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for families and visitors.
