Bushra Bibi approaches LHC against her arrest in Toshakhana case
Wife of PTI Founder Imran Khan says she was arrested without a warrant and subjected to mistreatment and humiliation by female officers
Lahore: Bushra Bibi, wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, on Wednesday submitted a petition to the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging her arrest in the Toshakhana case.
In her petition, Bushra Bibi asked the court to declare her arrest illegal and unlawful. She also demanded action against the officials responsible for her arrest, including the superintendent of Adiala Jail and other authorities.
Bushra Bibi claimed she was arrested without a warrant and subjected to mistreatment and humiliation by female officers.
On July 13, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were detained under a new National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reference related to Toshakhana, just hours after their acquittal in the Iddat case.
The sources said that the NAB team, led by Deputy Director Mohsin Haroon, carried out the arrests at Adiala Jail.
This arrest followed the acceptance of appeals by the Islamabad district and sessions court against their conviction in the Iddat case.
Earlier this year, the couple had been sentenced to seven years in prison and fined Rs500,000 each after a trial court found their marriage to be fraudulent.
The recent decision removed the final legal obstacles keeping the former prime minister in jail, with his sentences in two Toshakhana cases being suspended and his acquittal by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the cipher case.
