Balochistan budget: Opposition MPAs, police clash outside assembly
Quetta: Opposition legislators and their supporters came face to face with the police outside the Blaochistan Assembly and MPAs Hostel before the start of budget session on Friday. The session proceedings could not be initiated in time.
Clashes erupted when police arrived to the assembly gate at the MPAs Hostel when Opposition lawmakers and police exchanged harsh words.
A couple of protests by the Opposition members and their supporters apparently in an attempt to block the budget session led to a physical confrontation between police personnel and legislators. Policemen pushed the protesters and managed to escort Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal into the Assembly hall.
During the clash, an Armoured Police Vehicle (APC) broke into the main gate of the Assembly. The legislators broke some flower pots and glass upon which police fired tear gas shells.
A shoe was hurled on the chief minister during the protest, but he escaped unhurt.
Police said Opposition lawmakers had locked all four doors of the Balochistan Assembly to prevent the budget session from taking place today.
