Monsoon spell: Rain in different cities of country
48-year rainfall record broke in Multan as 172mm rainfall was recorded
Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi, Multan: The strong spell of Monsoon in different cities caused havoc. Due to heavy rain, low-lying areas in various cities were flooded.
Lahore
During late night, the weather of the city became pleasant due to some light and heavy rain in different areas of Lahore including Abbott Road, Shimla Pahari, Qurtaba Chowk, Ichhra, Ferozepur Road, Chungi Amarsadhu, Kahanna, Gajumata and other parts of the city.
Canal Road, Thokar Niaz Baig, Johar Town, Garden Town, Township, Pindi Stop, and surrounding areas also experienced rain that interrupted the heat intensity.
Islamabad/Rawalpindi
There were heavy rains also in Rawalpindi and Islamabad which caused to water level at Nala Lai to rise at Katarian. The spillways were opened when the water level in Rawal Dam rose.
Karachi
Due to the strong spell of Monsoon in Karachi, the area of Old City, Tower, MA Jinnah Road, Sadar, Gurmandir, Gulistan-e-Johar, Jail Chowrangi, Liaquatabad, Karimabad, Safoora, North Karachi, Nazimabad has experienced the heavy rain.
In other districts of Sindh, including Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Matiari, Badin, Golarchi, Thatta, water accumulated in the low-lying areas due to rain. In Hashim Kaloi village of Thatta, 40 mud houses collapsed due to rain. Nawabshah, Bahawalnagar, and Sanghar also received intermittent rain.
Multan
48-year rainfall record broke in Multan as 172mm rainfall was recorded. Earlier in 1976, 134.5mm rainfall was recorded in Multan. Bahawalpur, Hujra Shah Moqim, Ahmedpur Sharqia, Ouch Sharif, Chakwal and Renala Khurd also received heavy rain.
Due to heavy rain in Shujaabad, three persons including a mother and daughter were seriously injured when the wall of the garbage centre shed near the railway gate collapsed. The rescue teams shifted the injured to the hospital.
Four people died in different incidents of electrocution in Pakpattan, Khanewal, Darya Khan, and Karachi, while 50 cattle died due to roof collapse in Chakwal.
Due to heavy rains, flood situation has arisen in many areas. The destruction was caused by rains in Pind Dadankhan. The passenger bus got stuck in a flood relay, due to a strong spell of monsoon, the canal passing through Choasidan Shah city overflowed.
On the other hand, several settlements were flooded by the flood rails coming from Rojhan and Mount Sulaiman. Dozens of houses were affected, and torrential rains flooded the rivers and canals in Kirk city and its surroundings as rainwater entered houses and markets.
Azad Kashmir
Intermittent rain is continuing in different areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The weather has become pleasant in Muzaffarabad and its surroundings. The Lohar Gali highway connecting the capital to Abbottabad has been closed again due to landslides.
It has been informed by the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) that the Rawalpindi highway has been restored for normal traffic, and citizens and tourists should avoid unnecessary travel to upper areas.
