Qatar Airways flight makes emergency landing at Karachi airport due to engine failure

Karachi: A Qatar Airways flight en route from Doha to Angeles City in the Philippines made an emergency landing at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport on Friday after experiencing a critical engine failure.

According to the Civil Aviation  sources, the flight QR 926, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, was cruising at an altitude of 39,000 feet in Pakistan’s airspace when one of its engines suddenly shut down.

The pilot immediately issued a Mayday call, requesting permission for an emergency landing in Karachi.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) spokesperson confirmed that the aircraft encountered a severe technical malfunction mid-flight.

 “The pilot requested an emergency landing, and after clearance was granted, the plane safely landed at Jinnah International Airport,” the spokesperson said.

There were 187 passengers on board, all of whom were safely disembarked and moved to the airport lounge. The airport authorities are conducting inspections, and arrangements are being made to accommodate the passengers until further notice.

Further investigations are underway to determine the cause of the engine failure.

Qatar Airways has not yet commented on the incident.
