Nishtar Hospital: Ban on new patients after dialysis unit contracts AIDS
Hospital administration stated that the ban will be lifted soon after completing safety arrangements
Multan: After 25 patients were diagnosed with AIDS at Nishtar Hospital in Multan, a ban was imposed on the treatment of new patients in the dialysis unit.
The Nishtar Hospital administration confirmed the ban on the treatment of new patients in the dialysis unit and said that after the ban, only 240 already registered patients could undergo dialysis.
The hospital administration stated that the ban on new patients undergoing dialysis is temporary and will be lifted soon after completing safety arrangements.
On the other hand, the inquiry commission formed to investigate the transmission of the AIDS virus among patients has been completed, after which the commission left for Lahore yesterday.
The hospital administration added that the report of the investigation commission will be presented to the Secretary of Health today and action will be taken against those responsible in the light of the commission report.
It is pertinent to note that AIDS transmission has been confirmed in 25 patients from the dialysis unit so far.
A few days ago, an AIDS patient was dialyzed in the dialysis unit of Nishtar Hospital, after which the virus was also transmitted to other patients when they were dialyzed on the same machine.
The hospital administration said that after dozens of patients became infected with AIDS, two dialysis machines have been shut down.
