Social media platforms could be fined up to $33 million if they fail to comply with ban


Canberra: A bill to ban social media use by children under 16 has been passed in Australia.
The Australian House of Representatives passed a bill to ban social media use by children under 16 in the country, which was approved by 102 votes to 13.
According to the report, after the bill is approved by the Senate, authorities will have to establish a security system within a year to prevent minors from accessing social media platforms.
Foreign media reports that social media platforms could be fined up to $33 million if they fail to comply with the ban.
It is pertinent to note that after final approval by the Senate, this will become the first law of its kind in the world.
