Opposition demanded president's resignation and emphasized the accountability of all those involved in ruling party


Seoul: South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol announced the lifting of martial law a few hours later, after which the cabinet also approved the lifting of martial law from the country after a vote in parliament.

190 members of the 300-member South Korean parliament voted against martial law and declared the presidential decision null and void.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, while addressing the nation, said that martial law was imposed due to the opposition's anti-state activities, and the North Korea-leaning opposition was occupying the parliament.
The South Korean President cited recent actions by the opposition Democratic Party, which has a majority in parliament, as the motivation for this decision, which had rejected the government budget and proposed the impeachment of some of the country's top prosecutors.
Democratic Party declares martial law unconstitutional
According to the South Korean news agency, the head of the opposition Democratic Party had declared the imposition of martial law unconstitutional.
Later, after the president imposed martial law in South Korea, people took to the streets, after which the police closed the entrances to the South Korean parliament and prevented members from entering the parliament. However, after clashes with the police, the members broke through the police cordon and entered the parliament.
After the members entered the parliament and the parliament session began, special forces of the army also entered the parliament to clear the house.
