Decision was made in a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Rightsizing


Islamabad: The Railways Ministry has planned to abolish 15,000 additional posts in the next few months, as part of the ministry’s rightsizing efforts.
The decision was made in a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Rightsizing on Monday.
The meeting was chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb, whose objective was to review the progress of rightsizing initiatives in federal ministries.
The Establishment Division informed the minister that confirmation of the abolition of 11,877 posts and 4,660 dormant posts has been received from 29 ministries and one constitutional body.
Aurangzeb appreciated the implementation of the decisions of the committee and appreciated the efforts of the ministries and departments.
The Railways Ministry informed the committee that 17,101 posts have already been abolished while the process of abolishing 5,695 posts is underway, out of 95,859 approved posts.
In addition, the ministry has planned to eliminate 15,000 additional posts soon to further the ministry’s efforts in realigning the ministry.
The meeting emphasized the need to align the ministry’s performance with its core mandate and reduce unnecessary posts. The committee decided to refer the matter to the Sub-Committee on Realignment for further review and implementation of the recommended measures.
The committee called for a phased implementation of realignment measures in federal ministries to achieve effective, efficient, and sustainable policy outcomes.
